DC-quick charging station at BMW Welt

In a joint project EIGHT, ABB, BMW Group, Deutsche Bahn, RWE, the University of Bamberg, the Federal Defense University of Munich and the Dresden University of Technology develop and construct a DC-quick charging station for electric vehicles at BMW Welt in Munich. The solar charging station will be unveiled in summer 2013. EIGHT will plan, design and manufacture an individual solar charging station for the new charging standard CSS / Combo that meets the users´ demands.

The solar charging station will correspond perfectly with the architecture of BMW Welt and will offer two CSS charging points. Thereby EIGHT and the partners create a crosspoint that connects electric cars, metropolitan public transport, electric bikes as well as short and long distance traffic.

Within the project besides technical aspects user acceptance and user behavior will also be explored. Furthermore, the partners will develop a range calculator to simplify and optimize the routing and charging strategy.

The Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Housing, the Federal Ministry of Research and Technology, the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety and as well as the Federal Ministry of Economics support the project within the Bavarian-Saxon showcase “ELEKTROMOBILITÄT VERBINDET”.
